“A nuh everyting come from above a blessing.”

“A nuh everyting come from above a blessing.”

At the root, for me, this proverb is about discernment. Sometimes we are presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. That *thing* we’ve been thinking about, dreaming about, manifesting. Sometimes that thing falls into our lap and we jump at the chance. Thinking that this is what we are ”supposed to” be doing. Holding ourselves to timelines. Telling ourselves that this is the time. Only to find out that it couldn’t be further from the truth. If we aren’t on an intentional journey to self discovery how can we know what is truly meant for us? Self discovery, healing, unlearning/learning and time is how we can avoid detours disguised as blessings.

To take it further, when we think about the world that we live in and the ways it pushes us to assimilate into the ruling class’ ideals. When we do assimilate, things that appear to be blessings, things that we’re taught set us apart from and above others in our minds cause harm to ourselves and everyone around us. So many people choose to remain blind and stay within the perceived safety of trying to assimilate.

Knowledge is power. Knowledge is the foundation of discernment. Sometimes the blessing can be found on the ground in front of you as you walk towards liberation.
